So in case you didn’t know, EMS World Expo begins next week! As with the great tradition of the fabulous EMS Conference, coinciding with it is the landing of the latest Atlantic Hurricane Sandy, which at some point will mash into another low front to create the aptly named #Frankenstorm.
Or, we could just call her #Sandy.
I think it is important that the agencies establish the hashtags for use during the storm. Sure, there will always be those cases where the Internet will decide the most popular snarky filled hashtag, but as the professionals we are automatically thrust into a position of leadership. We should use that position to establish both the general use hashtag as well as localized hashtags. As I’ve already written in this column at EMS1.com, it is important to keep it as simple as possible.
I continue to propose that agencies use a simple formula to model their hashtags after.
We can, of course, leave it up to the masses to decide. But really how effective will that be?
Be safe out there1
