The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) held their Annual Membership meeting yesterday at EMS World Expo. During the meeting that covered both the associations recent accomplishments and future goals there was stress placed on passing the Field EMS Bill through the United States Congress.
With EMS on the Hill Day coming on March 26, 2014, the goal of NAEMT is to gain an additional 89 congressional co-sponsors to the Field EMS Bill (H.R.809.IH). This is a very hefty goal considering the amount of time left. NAEMT has a number of tools at its members disposal to make it easier to contact their local representatives that can be found on their CapWiz Page.
This type of collaborative legislative action is exactly what an organization such as NAEMT is for. It’s success however is truly dependent on their members getting out and letting their congressional representatives know the importance of this legislation to them as individuals and as part of the whole Emergency Medical Services.
Your Call To Action
In an attempt to make it simplified…
- Visit the NAEMT CapWiz Page
- Contact your Congressional Representatives and express your support of the Field EMS Bill and why you want them to support it and co-sponsor it
- Go to EMS on the Hill Day and talk face to face with your representatives
If you can’t do #3 for whatever reason, then at the very least do #1 and #2. You’re already on the internet so there’s no reason for you not to. If you want to go ABOVE and BEYOND without doing #3, send a letter snail mail. I have it on relatively good authority that a snail mail postmarked letter has more effect because congressional offices can verify your residence within their district.
So what are you waiting for? Go do it.
