On April 20, 2016 Larry Fuller died when the ambulance he was operating struck a stone overpass off the Southern State Parkway in Nassau County, New York. He immediately perished in the impact. Larry Fuller was an employee of Hunter Ambulance.
The patient in the rear of the ambulance was James Larson, 36 also passed away from injuries sustained in the accident. It has been reported that he was being transported from the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan to the A. Holy Patterson Extended Care Facility located in Uniondale, Nassau County and was a multi-organ transplant patient.
Although the investigation is ongoing, I know there has been plenty of speculation regarding the cause of the crash. Fatigue, mechanical failure, and a catastrophic acute medical condition have all been mentioned as potential causes. For right now, it doesn’t matter what the cause was. What matters is that a patient lost their life while in our care and we lost one of our own. We should be focused on the family and friends of those we lost, and Renato Endrada who is the sole survivor of the crash.
Good journey brothers.
