CareerCast.com’s Annual Report on the Best/Worst jobs of 2014 sees EMT come in at #178 out of 200 ranked professions. While we are not in the 10 Worst Jobs like we were in 2011, we apparently aren’t above the 100 fold as EMT was ranked in 2013 at #96.
This type of fluctuation is probably the norm due to the way surveys are answered and the metrics used to determine the rankings of the different professions. I think this year we’re ranked pretty close to where we should be, and view 2013 as a serious anomaly in the rankings or a flaw in the methodology. You can see the CareerCast.com Methodology and see if you agree with it yourself.
Both Enlisted Military Personnel and Firefighters also ended up listed on The Most Stressful Jobs of 2014 list, which EMT did not make either. I can get both those choices… but the fact they list Event Coordinator (#5) and Newspaper Reporter (#8) INSTEAD of EMT, well that just plain out makes me wonder. How as a society do we put greater stress on those who are coordinating china patterns and mislabeling EMS providers than those doing CPR on someone’s loved one while rocketing down the expressway at 65 miles per hour plus?
I know what you’re all wondering… how did our brothers from different mothers the Taxi Driver rank? Well, good news for us is that we’re still on top… Taxi Driver ranked #197. Apparently they have better jobs than those fighting to preserve our Constitutional freedoms… one of which is to drive a yellow car and charge people money for the ride.
And since I don’t have a chance to blog nearly as much as I’d like to anymore…
