Facebook the company has been pretty busy over the last few weeks. While their Initial Public Offering, the investigations into it, and the wedding of founder Mark Zuckerberg have all been making headlines overshadowing some important developments especially for those of us who need to manage while on the go.
They recently released an official Facebook Pages App that will help you manage your pages directly from your iOS powered device. The application initially seems like a Facebook Page centric version of the regular Facebook app for profile users, but it has two specific key features that are well worth the free download.
One of the key features using this independent application to manage your Facebook Pages is the ability to receive notifications and view the activity on your page. It allows you to filter between Page Posts, Everyone Else’s Posts, and depending on your permission settings Hidden Posts. The application lets you also comment and “Like” as your actual page as opposed to your personal profile.
For those of us that administer for more than one Facebook Page, the app has a menu where you can easily select which Page you want to create content for. This can be especially helpful for County Emergency Managers who help administer Pages for the various departments within their county. This same menu also gives you access to a lite version of your page’s Insights.
So I know I already made my 2012 Predictions for Social Media in EMS, but as I looked at my phone the other day this is what I saw. If you wonder why Facebook is coming out with individual apps for functionality, I think the answer is obvious.
I think in the near future we’ll see either a Facebook Phone or a Facebook Tablet, or both. When it drops, make sure you remember where you heard it first….
