I’m not necessarily a fan of New Year resolutions. Usually we end up falling short in keeping them because they are made most often on whims than actual plans that can effect change in our lives. Unfortunately, sometimes our agencies are guilty of the same lack of planning.
In the new year I hope every agency will resolve to increase its value with their community, commit to telling their own story, and engage their stakeholders on as many levels as possible. In my newest column at EMS1.com, I lay out the framework to do just that:
- Identify goals for your agency based on your long term communications plan.Don’t have a long term communications plan? Then resolve to have one in place before January 1.
- Become your own expert. It is common to hear leaders talk about the need to hire a social media “expert” which is prohibitively expensive for some agencies. The truth is that, although there are thousands upon thousands of these self-described social media “experts,” you don’t need them.
