On Friday afternoon the closing session I attended was How A Blog Saved My Life presented by Justin “The Happy Medic” Schorr.
Justin’s presentation focused on why he began blogging, his evolution from an anonymous blogger to bringing the “project” that became Chronicles Of EMS to fruition beyond expectations and becoming one of the more widely read bloggers in the field.
One of the topics he talked about was the uncertainty of his department’s reaction when going from an anonymous blogger to a known blogger. He pointed out that he was lucky that his department’s leadership supported him and his vision. Had they not, it all would have turned out very differently.
This personal recounting was a great way to close out EMS World Expo. It served as a reminder that beyond the protocols, the science, and the training we are people helping other people the best way we know how.
