In a relatively predictible twist of fate, the New York State Emergency Medical Advisory Committee (SEMAC) did NOT approve the New York City Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Committee‘s (REMAC) proposed changes to protocol 421: HEAD AND SPINE INJURIES.
Those changes effectively eliminated use of the medieval torture device known as the spinal backboard. By SEMAC not approving the change, they have guaranteed that the torture and systematic abuse of New York City patients by over zealous protocol bleating EMTs will continue despite having NO scientific evidence to the benefit of the practice.
Sources deep within the dark dungeouns where progress in EMS has been sent to die say that SEMAC will be issuing a new state wide protocol that will re-introduce the practice of leeching (Hirudotherapy) for any and all patients who are medically ill.
