NBC New York is reporting on a panicked 9-1-1 call from a New Jersey girl after she accidentally knocked an Elf on the Shelf to the floor.
9-1-1 Operator: Hello
Caller: It’s Isabella
9-1-1 Operator: Hi. Hi Isabella, why are you calling 9-1-1?
Caller: Don’t come to my house!
9-1-1 Operator: Ok
Caller: I was trying to call my dad but it was an accident
9-1-1 Operator: You can just say you made a mistake
Police were dispatched the location, which is standard operating procedure once a 9-1-1 call is received in their community. The officer who arrived found Isabella hysterical because the Elf on the Shelf had been knocked out of a stocking while she was playing with a ball.
According to Elf on the Shelf lore, by touching your Elf on a Shelf it will lose it’s Christmas magic. From The Elf on the Shelf FAQ:
The officer, after speaking with Isabella’s mother who had just woken up from a nap, radioed in to dispatch:
Officer: 5-Oh-4 to headquarters
Officer: Isabella apologized. She touched the Elf on a Shelf, she won’t call 9-1-1 again
The Police Department acknowledged that Isabella thought it was an emergency, and were fine with receiving and responding to the 9-1-1 call.
Additionally, Santa Claus was also alright with Isabella touching the Elf on the Shelf because it was an accident. To reassure her, he made a visit courtesy of the South Old Bridge Fire Department:
If only all 9-1-1 calls were made and resolved so easily.
