You know 12-Lead ECGs have been taking center stage in the EMS product front for awhile. While all of these products are great as they advance the level of care they can provide, the one thing they don’t seem to accomplish is helping the Paramedic master the skill of interpretation.
Mastery of the 12-Lead ECG is finally within the reach of any paramedic with a smartphone regardless of the number of 12-leads they perform in their system. Tom Bouthillet of the Prehospital 12-Lead ECG Blog revealed the 12-Lead ECG Challenge app that he developed in partnership with Limmer Creative.
The app is beautifully designed and easy to use. The main menu gives you a few different options to study before taking the actual 12-Lead ECG Challenge on full force. You can choose a 5 question, 10 question, or 20 question practice round.
The study cases are relatively straight forward. The app presents you with a 12-lead ECG strip and a brief scenario. You can zoom onto the strip for a close inspection. Once you think you know the answer, simply press the answer button at the bottom and the card “flips” to reveal a detailed accounting of what it is you are actually looking at. Once you’ve “mastered” the card, you can drop it from the rotation by simply pressing the “Mastered It” button.
There are two things that make this app stand out amongst all the rest. The first is the combination of the beautiful sleek design with a great user interface that makes the experience complete.
The other outstanding feature is the sheer amount of content. The app contains a whopping 150 12-lead ECG cases from real patients (as evidenced by its 45MB download size), all with the detailed answers needed to guide you in developing your 12-lead interpretation skills.
On my wish list for this app is some dynamic content delivered in app from Tom’s award deserving blog. Other than that, this app is a must have for anyone looking to improve their 12-lead ECG interpretation skills and it will be the only 12-lead ECG app you will ever need to do so.
